APS ethics unit clears McDaniel of wrongdoing

Atlanta Board of Education Chairman Reuben McDaniel has been cleared ofalleged ethics violations by the board’s Ethics Commission regarding thedistricts delay in offering an employment contract to North Atlanta High Schoolteacher Amy Durham.

In October, Durham, who taught language arts at the Buckhead school,resigned after being accused of racial discrimination. She has been involvedwith the school system as a parent and volunteer for 15 years.
Durham has two children who graduated from the school and two whocurrently attend there.

A complaint charged that McDaniel had interferedby bringing up the anonymous charges of racial discrimination. But the EthicsCommission on Feb. 5 voted to clear him of the charges.
