Former Atlanta Mayor andBuckhead Coalition President Sam Massell today sent a letter today to HakimHilliard, attorney for the 2500 Peachtree Condominium Association, suggesting awin-win way to preserve the historic Buckhead Randolph-Lucas House and appeasethe condo owners.
Here is the text ofMassell’s letter to McKenna, Long & Aldridge attorney Hilliard:
“Although I am a BoardMember of the Buckhead Heritage Society, I’m writing this in my capacity asPresident of the Buckhead Coalition, which serves as somewhat like the Chamberof Commerce for the Community. It happens I’m also a resident of PeachtreeHeights West.
The Randolph-Lucas House at 2500 Peachtree Road
“I have not had a formalrelationship with the 2500 Peachtree Condominium Association, however I havementioned to individual residents at different times suggested solutions forfuture maintenance and use of the Randolph-Lucas House. Thus, I take this meansto propose an idea to the Association through you as its attorney.
“I believe we can findor create a Foundation that would receive ownership (and accept compliance withthe original zoning agreement), which should reduce the taxation on the condoowners. The plan would be for The Foundation to operate this house as anAtlanta Mayor’s Mansion—not for residential occupancy, but for ceremonialevents.
“The prestige to theCondo Association, Buckhead and Atlanta would be obvious, and the Coalitionwould be pleased to assist with this initiative.”
The letter is signed SamMassell, President, and is written on formal Buckhead Coalition stationery.Copies were sent to Wright Mitchell of the Buckhead Heritage Society and BuffQuillian of the Peachtree Heights West Civic Association.
