APS seeking online input to develop 2013-14 calendar

Atlanta Public Schoolsis asking for public input to develop its calendar for the 2013-2014 schoolyear.

Parents, employees andstudents are asked to fill out an online survey to weigh in on the options,which follow:
BalancedCalendar: A "balanced" calendar features 8-9week blocks of instructional days with week-long breaks evenly distributedthroughout the school year. A balanced calendar usually includes a 9-10 weeksummer break.
TraditionalCalendar: A "traditional" calendar featureslong blocks of instructional time with limited breaks during the school year. Atraditional calendar usually includes a 10-11 week summer break.
YearRound Calendar: A "year-round"calendar usually features 8-9 week blocks of instructional time with 3-weekbreaks distributed throughout the year. In a year-round model, inter sessionsare provided for students during these breaks with opportunities for catch-upand enrichment, if funding is available. A year-round calendar usually includesa 5-week summer break.
