Over the past two years, Peachtree Presbyterian’s efforts have resultedin the assembly and packing of more than 750,000 meals. This year, the goal isto pack an additional 325,000 meals.
Beginning Friday, hundreds of volunteers will fill the gym of the church,which is located at 3434 Roswell Road, to assemble protein-rich meal packetsduring eight shifts of two hours. The shifts will continue through Sundayafternoon.
The press release explains that Feed My Starving Children is a CoonRapids, Minn.-based Christian ministry committed to feeding God’s starvingchildren, hungry in body and spirit. The approach is that children and adultshand-pack meals formulated specially for starving children, which are thenshipped to nearly 70 countries around the world.
Jay Madden, thechurch’s pastor for mission, said he is amazed by the energy that exudes fromthe volunteers. The volunteers begin their quest to surpass the million mealmark on Friday at 4 p.m. and continue during the following shifts: Friday from4 to 6 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.; Saturday from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., 11 a.m.to 1 p.m., 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and on Sunday from 11:15 a.m. to1:15 p.m. and 1:30 to 4 p.m.
There remain openings for those who wish to join this effort on both Friday and Saturday. Call the church for information.
“The excitement builds throughout each shift as the volunteers comecloser and closer to achieving their group’s goal,” Madden said. “Their facesbeam with pride as they are filled with the wonderful spirit of knowing thatthey are part of a diverse fellowship of people who packaged meals not onlyfilled with nutrition, but also filled with hope for children throughout the worldwho must deal with starvation and related diseases on a daily basis.”
